COMPETENCES IN MODERN CARTOGRAPHY
The seminar organized by the Commission for Theoretical Cartography of the ICA,
the Centre for Cartography at Vilnius University and Lithuanian Cartographic
Society is a bi-annual scientific event, designed for share of ideas and experience
in the field of cartographic semiotics, communication and literacy.
It has been estimated in various international studies that 80 to 95 percent of all information used in public sector is geographic. More than that, intense technological (e.g., web and cloud mapping) and organisational (e.g., national, regional and global spatial data infrastructures) developments continue in this sector worldwide. As cartographic methods and technologies are used wherever geographic information is dealt with, it can be firmly assured that professional broad profile cartographers are and will be wanted for many years ahead.
Professional cartographers, employers and students are kindly invited to contribute
with presentations focusing on the cartographic competences in modern world.
The most welcome topics for the presentations and discussions are:
- Competences in cartography and GIS in modern society
- Labour market for graduates in Cartography: structure and expectations
- Cartographic competences required in spatial data infrastructures.
- Theoretical cartography: future trends of development
- Introduction of innovative cartographic projects and ideas (a special poster
session)
