Giedrė Beconytė is a professor at Institute of Geosciences at Vilnius University. She is a graduate of Vilnius University, diploma in Social Geography, MSc in System Engineering (Informatics), PhD. Main courses taught: database design, methodology of scientific research, cartographic and GIS project management, cartographic communication, logical methods. Her research interests include spatial information infrastructures, spatial analysis focusing on geography of crime, thematic maps, mental maps. Author of over 50 research papers, thematic maps, textbooks, graphic design projects. In 2002 she with a group of colleagues established Lithuanian Cartographic Society, of which she still is the executive secretary. She was the co-ordinator of development of the national geoportal of Lithuania, since 2005 employed part time in the state enterprise „GIS-Centras” (2012–2020 head of the Spatial Information Infrastructure department).
